Am I a Real Adult Now?

Am I a Real Adult Now?

Well, it happened.

Today is my 20th birthday.

Not quite sure how this happened.

I mean, obviously it was coming, but now it’s here.

There’s something that always feels so final to me about turning a year older, which is odd because literally nothing is changing.

But I’m officially in my twenties now, which is insane to me.

I just have this feeling, like this number comes with an expectation that I have to be an adult now.

Technically I’ve been an adult for two years now and I pay my own rent, do my own food shopping, cook my own meals, live out of home and make my own doctors appointments.

So really, there is no significance to this birthday in most senses, but hey, I’ve made it 20 rotations around the sun… that’s gotta count for something.

Two decades, it feels like cause for some thanks.

First, to my mother. My own personal life saver in the literal sense. Everything I am is because of you and I’m well aware I don’t even know the half of it.

To my brothers, thank you for making me a better, more caring person, even from a distance.

To my grandparents, thank you for being my own personal cheerleaders, for warning me when there’s pepper in tomato sandwiches and for teaching me history I wouldn’t learn otherwise.

And to my best friends, thank you for your presence in my life for always looking out for me and being as ridiculous as I am, I don’t know what I did to deserve you and don’t know what I would do without you.

There is so much love in my life and for one of the first times I’m one hundred percent sure I’m in the right place.

I’m so blessed to be where I am.

I hope you’re having a wonderful 4th of November and remember that the Melbourne Cup is coming up on the 6th and from July 2016 until July 2017, 137 horses died on Australian racetracks. That’s an average of more than two deaths a week, don’t bet, don’t support it.

Love,

Mal xx
